Summer Detox

Updated: Aug 7, 2019

How well have you been treating your body this year? Have you been indulging in less than healthy foods, skipping meals, drinking a bit more alcohol than usual, not drinking enough water, running off little to no sleep, or just bombarded with work and stress?

If you answered yes to 2 or more of these, you're not alone. Life gets crazy and before you know it half the year is gone (it's July y'all)! Now is the perfect time to reboot your body and life with a detox! But don’t bother going out and buying one, your body is already equipped to do so naturally with a few changes to your routine.

Start with moving more! Your digestive system is a set of muscles that need to be exercised just like the rest of your body. Luckily this doesn’t require any excessive sweating or gym time. Simply get up a few times throughout the day, bend, twist, and stretch. These movements will help your digestive muscles work more effectively.

Next, you want to decrease your digestive system's workload. By eating smaller meals spaced evenly throughout the day, you allow your body to digest its food with better ease. Adding more fibrous foods, like low-sugar fruits and dark leafy greens also help things move along better (if you catch my drift).

Another easy step to take is chewing more. I know that may sound weird or too simple, but it really does work. By chewing your food more thoroughly your body can digest it easier and absorb even more nutrients from it.

Last but definitely not least, food journal! By keeping track of your daily intake it’s easier to see all of the great things you are already doing for your body and what slight adjustments may need to be made.

The more consistent you are with these changes in your life and diet, the better the results and the more amazing you’ll feel! Oh and water, drink at least 80 ounces a day to help flush out all of the toxins and to get rid of that dreadful bloated feeling.
